The Board approved the creation of a SCOS Library to make available to SCOS members approximately 20 books donated by Jane Brecht to our Society.  The Brechts collected this diverse collection of books over many years.  Some are light reading about local orchid growers’ experiences such as Orchids And Serendipity, OUT WEST - Growing Cymbidium Orchids and other Flowers.  Some are basic introductions to orchids and their culture such as Orchids in Colour.  And some are very in-depth texts on a particular orchid group such as The Genus Cymbidium.  Some are quite old but you may find that it may make the read more interesting, e.g., which orchids discussed in the book are still around.

Dennis Mackewicz has volunteered to house and checkout these books to members on request.  At the end of 2010 the Board will review whether there was sufficient interest to continue this service.  Some members have also shown interest in donating additional books that they have read and think would be appropriate for our collection

Checkout Procedure

Checkouts will occur at our monthly meetings.  Make a request to Dennis by email or phone before the meeting.  He will bring it to the next meeting, have you sign a checkout card with your current contact information and expect you or someone else to bring it back at the next monthly meeting.  You can let him know if you want to make other arrangements.  He will ask someone to substitute if he cannot make a meeting.
